Adirondack Attitudes for website

The mundane in the Adirondacks usually is not all that ordinary to most.  Our colorful mountains surround and protect us, the lakes shimmer and beckon, and its folks are hardy and hospitable.  It’s everyday. There are so many great stories to tell of this special place and its people and I try to tell them with paint and brush.  From the cold chill of a January playground to the heat of an August campfire, I am always inspired, and my telling of these Adirondack stories take shape on canvas with acrylic paint.

I picked up a paint brush late in life, at age 67, a couple of years ago, motivated by watching renowned plein air artist Vlad Duchev, who visited my hometown of Saranac Lake to participate in the Adirondack Plein Air Festival and left me with a couple of his paintings as gifts of friendship.  I stared and studied these paintings for over two years, finally deciding that I would try my hand at creating this kind of beauty and emotion; to tell a great story, and for me that story would be an Adirondack story, revealing the unique region in which I have lived most of my life.  Vlad became my “demanding” mentor and I have worked nearly every day since to be better in this craft.  I still have much more to go in my development, but I do hope you enjoy my stories.

Please send me your responses and ideas.  I would love to read them.
