About The Artists

Diane Leifheit

Diane E. Leifheit

There is a joy and peace I feel when working outside. The air is a constant shifting companion. Light moves inevitably to reveal new shadows. The commitment to the scene actually is about 3 to 4 hours and the result is about the entirety of that time, not the blink of the camera shutter, but the blinks of 4 hours of my own eye.

History happens over a period of time. Natures history is constantly evolving. The plein air painter is an historian, capturing a time - be it a barn, or the movement of light, or a coming storm, or flowers temporary presence. Eyes wide open, I work to get that short period onto the board so it can last just a bit longer.

Whether it be a sunrise, sunset, mountains, deserts and forests, honeybees, hummingbirds, and even our loving pets; I am constantly inspired to share that beauty in my paintings. My inspiration comes from spending a lot of time with my family hiking and skiing in the Adirondacks and visiting our National Parks all around the country. Even without travelling farther than a few steps from our back door, our pets entertain me with ideas and are constant subjects for me to work with. As a beekeeper, watching the honeybees pollinate and the variety of birds and other wildlife all around our garden. So, with so much inspiration, it is always a pleasure to create something new. I hope that my work is as pleasing to you as it is for me to create.

Larry Poole

Larry Poole

Larry Poole lives and does his printmaking in Saranac Lake, NY. His involvement in printmaking began when he found himself with the opportunity to reengage in his long-standing interest in art and design by combining the relatively recent advances in non-toxic etching processes with the changes in photography to digital imagining and the "computer darkroom."

Poole's strong appreciation of black and white photography has drawn him to use a single color in much of his work, often black. However, through various techniques including multiple plates, viscosity rolls, and chine collé he has introduced more than one color in many prints. Poole has also explored papermaking and enjoys using hand made paper in his art.

Marie Cogar

Marie Cogar

Marie Cogar grew up in Wisconsin surrounded by the colorful orchards, gardens, flowers and nature that inspired her art, singing, piano and family therapy practice. Marie obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from University of Wisconsin prior to moving to Saranac Lake in 1982. Her creativity was expressed in changing family dynamics over her 34-year professional career.

With retirement, Marie has more time for choral singing and pursuing the art of fused glass. Designing and creating daily and decorative fused glass pieces have provided Marie with a creative challenge. She uses the medium of weaving, combing, screen melting, cold working, kiln firing, lighting, and metal and wood displaying in her fused glass. Attending juried art celebrations in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts has brought a business dimension to Marie’s art.

Anne Heinz

My biological and artistic roots are in New England and New York. Augustus Rose, a leading Arts and Crafts metalsmith and early faculty member at the Rhode Island School of Design, was my great uncle. His daughters were artists and educators, and I inherited an enthusiasm for art jewelry and some of his tools. I started taking jewelry and metalsmith classes at the Evanston (Illinois) Arts Center about 15 years ago and studied pulp paper making at BluSeed Studio in Saranac Lake, New York. Teachers at both places provide essential technical guidance, creative inspiration, and essential encouragement. I maintain a studio at our home in Evanston, Illinois, from October to May and one at our camp in the Adirondack Mountains from June through September.
