This beautiful region is filled with communities small and large and is the perfect place to live and work, offering four distinct seasons and a climate that is suitable to most. Plattsburgh, NY Real Estate

Nestled between the Adirondacks and the shores of Lake Champlain, the city of Plattsburgh has a beautiful downtown area with restaurants and shops, a burgeoning arts scene, fishing areas, beaches, boat launches, recreational trails, an international airport, and so much more. The atmosphere in Plattsburgh is contagious, and the local residents are very friendly and active in their community.

Plattsburgh gained prominence as a major US hub for the fur trade with Montreal, located just over an hour to the north. While the fur trade is no longer prevalent, beautiful historic buildings remain from that time period. Brinkerhoff Street is particularly popular featuring unique architecture from the late 19th and early 20th century. Another popular area of Plattsburgh is Riverwalk Park and the Heritage Trail which follows through the city along the Saranac River passing by museums, art galleries, and local boutiques.

Surrounding the "lake city" are rural communities, each with their own distinct personality. While Plattsburgh is the business hub of the region, the surrounding communities are well known for their farms and pastoral landscapes, each with amazing views of the mountains, valleys and bodies of water nearby.

The people who live here describe the area as being close to everything: just 5 hours from New York City, an hour from Montreal to the north, Burlington, Vermont to the east and Lake Placid to the west, and just over 2 hours to the state capital of Albany, you are just short drive for a weekend getaway.

The city of Plattsburgh and surrounding areas offer a wide range of real estate for people of all ages and price ranges. Search through a variety of listings including contemporary homes, lakefront cottages, and historic buildings, each with their own story to tell. You can save your favorites and custom searches and get updates when similar properties are listed.

Lake Placid, NY Real Estate

Lake Placid is the unofficial capital of the Adirondacks. This historic town has hosted two Olympic Winter Games, most recently in 1980 when it was home of the legendary "Miracle on Ice" men's hockey semifinal game between the United States and Russia. Today it remains the epicenter of outdoor activity and culture in upstate New York, hosting dozens of sporting events year-round including the annual Empire State Winter Games, Ironman Lake Placid Triathlon, hockey tournaments, lacrosse tournaments, and ski jumping competitions.

The residents of Lake Placid are a wonderful mix of small business owners, athletes, and families. This eclectic population of about 3,000 annual residents is united by a common appreciation for the beautiful surroundings and a passion for the area's vibrant seasonal activities. There are amazing and award-winning local restaurants and breweries, as well as great shopping in downtown Lake Placid.

In the winter months enjoy skiing at Whiteface Mountain, just a few miles from the village of Lake Placid. As the tallest ski mountain in the east at nearly 5000 ft, Whiteface's trails offer extremely challenging terrain as well as a highly acclaimed learn-to-ski program for beginners. But despite being a world-class destination for all things winter, many would say that the Lake Placid region and its surrounding communities are at their best during the summer months when the area comes alive with hikers, rock climbers, fishermen, triathletes, mountain bikers, and live music lovers. In the summer, the Olympic training facilities remain open, and visitors can ride the 1980 bobsled course and visit the site of the 1980 and 1932 ski jumping competitions.

From swimming in the local lakes and ponds to climbing one of the famed Adirondack High Peaks, Lake Placid and the surrounding area is truly a can't-miss summer destination. At the end of a day full of activity, take some time to unwind at one of the amazing local breweries and restaurants like the Cottage on Mirror Lake or Lisa G's.
